"didn't seem particulary professional"
The moving team in Christchurch did not inventory at least half of my belongings. I was lucky that the team in Tauranga who unloaded the container recalled these items when I described them. Boxes were inventoried but almost none of the furniture which didn't seem particulary professional.
"Several items were damaged"
The teams who moved our stuff were great, but if there had been an extra person, both at the packing end, and unloading end, a hugh amount of time would have been saved, and it looked like a false economy to be short handed.
Several items were damaged, our samsung fridge, just one year old was dented in the front stainless steel door, which greatly marrs its finish, the same applies to a small electic heater. This is a design centric appliance, so a shame to knock it about.
My exercise bike followed on after Christmas, not enough room as I understand it, and no problem, but I did expect it to come with a folding table which had missed the first trip, so it would be nice to have that back.
With regard to the question of 'Would we use Conroy's again, and would we recommend Conroys' the answer is, with reservations, we have moved in NZ with all the large companies, and have had serious concerns, so in that contex the answer would be yes, but not without reservation.
"customer service and communication side of our move was very good"
Although the customer service and communication side of our move was very good, we had a number of breakages that we were not expecting. I would recommend you to others but would advise them to expect damage to goods.
"Communication could definitely be improved"
Chest of drawers broken. Fridge also damaged, scratched and a dent in it. Communication could definitely be improved on arrival time at Auckland.
"Overall an ok experience"
Overall an ok experience. I paid for the full unpacking and re-assembling service and I actually unpacked all my boxes myself and had to ask the guys to reassemble my furniture (and some of it has been reassembled incorrectly). Also my three-seater couch was difficult to get in the right room because of its length and the angles and doorways in the house - it was forced around corners and through doorways leaving lots of marks and scratches on freshly painted walls. Happy to send through photos.
"arrived on time"
The men were ok, but did drop a file which was most inconvenient, but they arrived on time, and were efficient enough
3 Stars
Only bad thing was that the discharge began 21/2 hours late but luckily I was not on a tight timeline or otherwise it may have been an issue
"safe and sound"
The service delivered my goods safe and sound but what I was told that it would be a 12 to 14 day delivery service turned out to be 2 months later that I received my goods on the 22nd Dec. It did cause settling home difficulties for me unfortunately. But the staff were very friendly from Australia back to NZ.
"minimal breakage or damage"
We have had a box of cd's,and othervaluables not arrive, along with a ladder, otherwise minimal breakage or damage.
"We were surprised"
We were surprised at the length of time it took to load the truck. The labour supplied was not helpful to the driver in charge of the truck. It took him seven hours to load and the help hired from Allied Labour were totally out of their depth. The bulk of the work was done by the driver and the two 'boys' supplied didnt amount to one other. Then another truck arrived and took one of the boys away and the driver was left with one lad who really didnt have a clue. I ended up helping load and if I hadnt we would most likey taken the driver another two or three hours. I have mentioned this to someone and their response was we can't control who Allied send. I suggested that Conroys should be more specific as to whom is suitable for the work and support hard working drivers who do a fantastic job. Conroys moved me to Palmerston North 28 years ago, and now have moved me home to Napier for which I counldnt have done any other way. Thank you
"lack of communication"
Packers, were great. Time management and lack of communication let our relocation down with both the pick up and delivery late arrivals by 1.5hrs. I ended up placing the boxes in each room to speed up the unload. Extra help did finally arrive but truck was two thirds empty by then. I would use Conroys again purely because of the excellent packing. Nothning of value was broken or damaged. The move was at a busy time of year nearing xmas but would have been more understanding if Conroys had communicated to us that they were running late instead of us having to chase them.
Unfortunately I was in a predicament where I needed to move out my house within 8 days. I received quotes from several moving companies (The Moving Company, Allied Pickfords, Crown, NZ Van Lines) which were between $600-$1000 cheaper but included a packing service which Conroy's did not quote. The other companies also sent a sales rep to view the goods before the quote. The other companies were unable to ship my goods on the specific day needed hence the need to choose conroys.
I did all my own packing of the goods as it was an additional price to have Conroys do this. The movers were very pleasant, professional and worked well and packed the truck swiftly and securely.
I still feel $3500 odd dollars for 1/3 of a 20ft container is an exhorborant amount of money to move from Christchurch to Auckland. While my employer will reimburse these costs it still feels like I have been ripped off.
Based on pricing and the low amount (not standard) of service I received for this price, I would not recommend or use Conroys for future moves.
