I was so happy to finally have my personal items delivered to me. However, as a consumer and a paying customer I didn’t feel respected or valued.
All of your employees i.e. from the point of pick up to the point of delivery should take pride in providing a good and safe service while keeping customer satisfaction in mind.
I made a polite request "Please can you put the boxes on the floor instead of having them stacked one on top of the other"... i.e. up to 4 boxes.
I was surprised to get these various comments (see below) from your delivery man considering that I had not asked him to unpack the goods and take away the cartons (thereby actually saving them time):
He said:
- I was 'doubling up' the work for him. He was not required to do this...
- "Don't believe them"...i.e. when I told him that Conroys...had told me that the cartons would be unpacked and the cartons taken away, but I was not asking him to do this, so I was actually saving him time.
- "You carried the other items!"...Note: The guitar and the camel seat were the first items he brought in, I volunteered to take them in myself as they were quite light and manageable. The rolled up rugs- I asked him to place just inside my back door.
- When he complied with my request and removed the 4th item on the top, he said "It's not heavy"...however, it was heavy for me as I'm less than half his weight and much shorter than him. Logistically, one can understand that with my height and build these items would not be easy for me to take off from the top of the stacked boxes considering they were unloaded in the middle of the room and not against the wall).
- I should be grateful that he is delivering my goods to me. Note: He 'shushed' me when I was trying to tell him it'd be difficult for me to unstack the boxes due to their weight, the height of them stacked up was almost twice my height (I'm petite), and also I had had an injury to my right forearm.
- I should get my 'husband' to do it (Regardless of having a husband or not, I think this kind of response is totally uncalled for).
- I was making it difficult for him i.e. regarding my simple request. I replied “that's unfair”...and he started grumbling about me to his mate (who was handing him the items from the truck).
- I must mind my back.
My simple request could have been dealt with much more professionally in that:
- He could have double-checked with your office about my request to place the items on the floor (instead of all of his unnecessary and personal remarks made to me).
- He could have stacked just two boxes at a time (so when he removed his trolley, there'd be only two boxes rather than four boxes standing one on top of the other). This would be a win-win situation in that he would only have had to move one box on to the floor. I had specifically asked for mainly the 'heavy' boxes to be unstacked.
I would question his work ethic especially when he feels justified in telling a paying customer "You should be grateful that I'm delivering the goods to you!"...and then not even thinking to apologise for the way he spoke down to me.
Anyway, I think to avoid unpleasant dealings in the future, I suggest :
- You ensure that ALL of your employees are on the same page regarding what constitutes a 'good' service
- You ensure that the delivery men are aware that unpacking and removal of cartons is part of the deal.
Thank you,

Thanks yes great service - very happy and good communication throughout the process. Thank you
The move went great. All the staff were friendly and good to work with.
I was advised I would receive a call the day prior to pick up and this didn't happen.
So I had to make the call instead to confirm the pick up was happening and that the after 3pm time requested suited you. Other than that the actual movers who did the packing were excellent
Just a bit more communication - on the day of pick up the guys were late (and thats okay) but they only communicated with us 10 minutes before they arrived - which was nealry 2 hours late for the 10:30am start. I had also rang through to the office to try and get an update, but got no response. Perhaps a call sooner would be better, as we had a meeting in Hamilton to be on time for. This lack of communication also ocurred at the deleivery end, the following day. Told they would be at our place at 9am - but did not turn up until 12.45pm. Time frames are important - so a little more keep the client up to date would make all the difference.
The guys that loaded the truck at both ends were great - no issues at all. We also have lost the cord and key to the treadmill.....which we leave wrapped around the handle. Could that have fallen off and being left in the truck??
The people who delivered the goods were excellent, they picked up on damage from the outset and pointed it out to us which was appreciated, they told us they would come back to remove the rubbish but we disposed of the rubbish ourselves in this instance. It is a good service to offer. We were told we have 2 weeks to report the damage, this is what I am doing tonight as two weeks is up on Tuesday? Perhaps they could have left us with a form or where to find a form on which to claim for your damages?
Because our shipment has taken so long on its journey we were disappointed that it had to go from Christchurch to Napier to come back to Christchurch but it was an understandable explanation that was given to us.
Communication and Packing from Orbit could definitely be improved.
Both the team out of Napier and the team from Tauranga knew what they were doing and worked well with us as owners. They were polite and fun to have. Their skill level was evident.
